SPRINGFIELD | Mid-century bungalow conversion

Springfield is a mid-century bungalow renovation in the beautiful Tamar Valley, designed to make the most of its elevated riverside setting while creating a more comfortable, energy-efficient home. Tamar Architecture reimagined the layout of this distinctive property, combining thoughtful internal alterations with a loft conversion to unlock the building’s potential.

With its impressive views across the River Tamar, Springfield offered an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between the home and its surrounding landscape. The redesign focuses on making the existing building work harder for modern living, improving the use of internal space while enhancing the property’s overall energy performance.

This project demonstrates how considered residential architecture can transform an existing house without the need for complete redevelopment. By retaining the bungalow and adapting it to suit contemporary needs, the design balances the character of the original building with improved functionality and comfort.

Tamar Architecture is experienced in house renovations, loft conversions and sustainable residential design in Cornwall and Devon. Springfield reflects the practice’s approach to creating individual homes that respond to their setting, make better use of existing buildings and improve everyday life through thoughtful architectural design.
